Australia we are in this together!

COVID-19 is a new strain of a coronavirus which was first identified in Wuhan, China in 2019.  COVID-19 like other viruses is continually undergoing changes to its genetic structure (the blueprint that shows a cell how to create more of the virus).  Every time someone is infected with a virus there is an opportunity for the virus to change a little and sometimes the change is in such a way that it makes it easier for the virus to spread, or to make people sicker (variant of concern). At the moment, the Delta variant of concern, which was first identified in October 2020, is causing more infections and is spreading faster than early forms of the virus.  Data suggests that the Delta variant causes more severe illness and increase number of hospitalisations than previous strains of COVID-19 in the unvaccinated population.

If you are aged 18 years or over, you can get the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine at a pharmacy.  Pharmacies have joined the fight in getting Australia Armed against the COVID-19 virus.  Contact your local pharmacy today to make an appointment to get your COVID-19 vaccine.

Frequently Asked Questions

1.What happens if I don’t get the second dose?

A single dose of COVID-19 vaccine will provide only partial protection against COVID-19 and this protection is likely to be of shorter duration unless the second dose is given.  For optimal protection against COVID-19, two doses are required.
