Your Scripts, Your Way.

What is an electronic prescription?

An electronic prescription is a prescription that is generated electronically by prescribers (including doctors, dentists, optometrists, midwives and nurse practitioners), and sent to a patient via SMS or Email in the form of a QR code or token.

When visiting a prescriber you may be given the option to choose an electronic prescription. An electronic prescription is used in the same way as a paper prescription, to get prescribed medicines dispensed from a Pharmacy.

Will I still be able to ask for a paper prescription?

Yes, the choice will be up to the patient. The prescriber will ask the patient what their preference is.

Note: not all prescribers will be able to offer electronic prescriptions

What happens if I delete my SMS or Email containing my prescription?

If your prescription has not yet been presented to a Pharmacy then your doctor can easily reissue you with a new SMS or email containing your QR code. If you have lost an SMS or email containing a repeat prescription then your Pharmacy will be able to resend your QR code.

How does a pharmacy use the QR code to supply my medications?

To access your medications you will need to present your SMS or email to the Pharmacy which contains a link to your QR code. The pharmacy will then scan that QR code to unlock your prescription and then dispense it as per normal.

If you cannot get to your local Pharmacy you can choose to forward your SMS or email to a carer of family member to have your medications dispensed on your behalf.

What happens if I don’t like the electronic prescription? Can I swap to paper?

If your prescriber issues you with an electronic prescription and you decide you prefer paper then the prescriber will need to be contacted to issue you with a new paper prescription. You can speak to your Pharmacist or your prescriber to ask for a paper version to be provided.

Does my pharmacy have other services to help me better manage my medications?

There are a range of different support and services we provide to help ensure easier access and improved safety when it comes to managing your medications. Please ask one of our friendly Pharmacy team members about how to manage your medications, your way.
